About the Role
We are looking for an experienced AS/400 (IBM i) Developer with strong RPG programming skills to join our IT team, working on business-critical applications within the banking and financial services sector.
The successful candidate will contribute to the development, maintenance, and enhancement of core banking applications, ensuring high levels of reliability, security, performance, and compliance with banking standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance core banking applications on the IBM i / AS/400 platform.
- Design, code, test, debug, and deploy solutions using RPG, RPGLE, and free-format RPG.
- Work with DB2 for i databases, including SQL queries, data models, and performance optimization.
- Maintain and enhance existing applications supporting banking operations, payments, account management, and financial transactions.
- Analyze functional and technical requirements and translate them into robust software solutions.
- Investigate production incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with business analysts, functional teams, QA, infrastructure, and other development teams.
- Ensure compliance with security, audit, change management, and operational procedures.
- Contribute to code reviews, technical documentation, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills and Experience
- Proven professional experience in AS/400 / IBM i development.
- Strong knowledge of RPG III, RPG IV, RPGLE, and free-format RPG.
- Experience with CL / CLLE and IBM i job scheduling and batch processing.
- Solid knowledge of DB2 for i and embedded SQL.
- Experience in application maintenance, debugging, performance tuning, and production support.
- Understanding of software development lifecycle, testing, and release management.
- Previous experience in the banking or financial services industry.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a technical team.
- Fluent in English
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with core banking systems and financial transaction processing.
- Knowledge of payment systems, SEPA, SWIFT, or other banking interfaces.
- Experience with APIs, web services, and integration between IBM i and distributed platforms.
- Familiarity with Git or other version control tools and modern IBM i development environments.
- Knowledge of banking security requirements, audit controls, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
