Role Description
As a City Host & Freelance Tour Guide in Matera, you will welcome travelers and lead them on personalized walks through the city's neighborhoods and landmarks. You will share local insights, cultural context, and your own experiences, helping visitors discover hidden spots, everyday life, and authentic food and beverage recommendations. Day-to-day tasks include coordinating meeting points, managing small group dynamics, answering questions, and providing friendly, responsive customer service throughout each tour. You may also suggest customized routes based on traveler interests and support guests with practical tips such as transportation, local customs,
and safety. This is a tempo parziale, on-site role in Matera, offering flexible scheduling and freelance-style assignments.
Qualifications
Strong communication skills, including clear spoken English and the ability to converse confidently with travelers from diverse backgrounds.
Customer service experience with a focus on hospitality, problem-solving, and creating welcoming, inclusive environments for guests.
Ability to provide engaging training or explanations, such as guiding first-time visitors through local customs, norms, and city navigation.
Familiarity with local food & beverage options, and enthusiasm for recommending authentic restaurants, cafés, and culinary experiences.
Basic sales or upselling skills, including promoting additional walks, experiences, or local services in a respectful, guest-centered way.
Deep knowledge of Matera's neighborhoods, history, culture, and daily life, with a genuine passion for sharing your city.
Reliable time management, punctuality, and the ability to work independently as a freelance host.
Comfort guiding small groups on foot and willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
