Vertiv

Description

The Senior Solutions Architect provides technical leadership and strategic guidance for the design, development, and implementation of advanced control, automation, and power monitoring systems across Vertiv™'s full power train — from utility entrance through medium voltage switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, static transfer switches, power distribution (PDUs, RPPs, busway), and battery/energy storage systems.

This is a senior-level technical customer-facing role that bridges deep electrical power domain expertise with pre-sales technical engagement to position Vertiv™ as the basis of design for power architectures in mission-critical data center environments.

The Senior Solutions

Architect serves as a trusted advisor to Vertiv™'s global strategic Hyperscale, Neo-Cloud, and Multi-Tenant Data Center customers, delivering credible technical authority and consultative design guidance that drives specification position and Vertiv™ Unify sales growth.

As data center campuses scale to hundreds of megawatts — and AI workloads demand unprecedented power density and reliability — this role is at the forefront of defining how Vertiv™ addresses next-generation power challenges through intelligent automation, advanced monitoring, and integrated control systems.

Responsibilities

- Design and define scalable, robust and secure architecture for PLC-based control and power/thermal monitoring systems, ensuring seamless integration of PLCs, HMIs, Gateways, SCADA systems, and power/thermal monitoring hardware.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams — including software developers, hardware engineers, product managers, and Vertiv engineering teams — to ensure solutions meet business objectives, technical requirements, and industry standards.
- Provide technical specification and design review for large projects, including CDE completion and basis-of-design documentation.
- Evaluate and select appropriate software frameworks, tools and technologies to align with the company's product roadmap and customer requirements.
- Establish frameworks for system validation, testing and compliance with industry standards (e.g., but not limited to IEC 61850, UL, IEC 62061).
- Serve as a technical mentor to the software development team, providing guidance on architecture, coding standards, and best practices.
- Drive continuous innovation and optimization by staying current with emerging trends in industrial automation, IoT, and power systems, and identifying opportunities to enhance performance, scalability, and efficiency of existing systems.

- Educate Vertiv selling entities on application-focused system architectures, positioning Vertiv as the basis of design for power and control solutions.
- Represent Vertiv at industry events to build awareness and credibility within the industrial automation and data center communities.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related discipline. Master's degree or PE license preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in power systems engineering, electrical automation, control systems design, or solutions architecture, with significant experience in the data center, critical infrastructure, or power utility sector. At least 5 years at a senior level influencing enterprise customers and shaping power solution strategy.
- Deep domain expertise across the full power train: medium voltage switchgear, transformers, UPS (AC/DC), static transfer switches, power distribution (PDUs, RPPs, busway), and battery/energy storage systems.
- Strong working knowledge of IEC 61850, SCADA systems, Energy Management Systems, PLC programming, and industrial communication protocols (GOOSE, MMS, Modbus TCP/IP, DNP3, BACnet).
- Experience with EPMS/BMS/SCADA/FLISR systems architectures and the ability to design and define scalable, robust and secure architecture for control-based electrical and mechanical systems.
- Proven ability to serve as a trusted technical advisor to senior stakeholders in Hyperscale, Neo-Cloud, and MTDC organizations, with credible technical authority and strong communication and influence skills.
- Experience developing concept power architectures, single-line diagrams, and leading technical design reviews for mission-critical facilities.
- Demonstrated track record of influencing basis-of-design specifications and driving revenue growth through technical pre-sales engagement.
- Strong collaboration skills with the ability to partner across business units and cross-functional teams to deliver a unified customer message.
- Demonstrated ability to design and deploy large-scale, mission-critical control systems.

- Understanding of cybersecurity best practices in industrial control systems is desired.
- Strong technical sales acumen, with experience in customer-facing roles and solution selling.
- Ability to drive strategic conversations with CIOs, CTOs and data center operations teams.
