Overview
In this role you will design and deliver firmware for industrial protection circuits and communication modules, contributing to ABB’s Smart Power initiatives. You’ll work within an R&D team, applying innovative software solutions to real-world power technology challenges. The position blends hands-on development with collaboration across architecture, hardware and software teams, and supports agile ways of working. You will help drive quality, security, and IP creation while contributing to cross-country projects and customer impact.

Responsabilità
- Design, develop, and implement firmware for industrial protection circuit breakers and communication modules
- Contribute to continuous improvement of firmware development and cyber security processes
- Perform unit, integration, and system testing to ensure quality
- Support innovation and patent-related activities where applicable
- Participate actively in an Agile Scrum team and Scrum ceremonies
- Collaborate with system architects and hardware/software developers to translate system requirements into firmware specs
- Mentor and share technical expertise with other engineers
- Collaborate with engineers worldwide and support knowledge sharing
Requisiti fondamentali
- M.Sc. or B.Sc. degree in Information or Electronic Engineering, Embedded Systems, or comparable field
- Strong proficiency in embedded C/C++, with solid software engineering fundamentals
- Experience with Python for scripting and test automation
- 8–10+ years of firmware development for embedded industrial applications
- Knowledge of embedded systems, MCUs, peripherals, RTOS preferred
- Strong debugging and root-cause analysis using lab tools
- Experience with development infrastructure: Azure DevOps, CI/CD, git
- Experience with industrial protocols (Modbus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, IEC61850, Profibus, CAN bus)
- Knowledge of embedded cybersecurity principles; secure development practices a plus
- Experience in Agile Scrum environments; willingness to work in Agile teams
- English and Italian communication; willingness to travel
