CENSUS AND STUDY OF THE FORMS OF PSEUDEPIGRAPHY IN THE 12TH CENTURIES
Pubblicato il 21-10-2026 - Gruppo importante in Bologna
Offer Description
As part of a broader project that aims to systematically map and online catalog the corpus of anonymous works from the Latin Middle Ages (producing critical editions and commentaries where appropriate), this specific project intends to systematically explore the problem of pseudepigraphy in the second millennium, characterized by the emergence of new brands with an authorial function, often created using contemporary or quasi-contemporary authors (ps. Anselm, ps. Albert, ps. Arnold, ps. Bonaventure, ps. Joachim, ps. Thomas). The overall objective of the research on anonymous works is to assess the role of anonymity in medieval culture, breaking down the category of anonymous texts into its various types. The definition and articulation of the new category of pseudoepigraphy is a step in this direction.
It is also considered relevant to examine how this new pseudoepigraphy shaped and influenced the organization and transmission of knowledge in the 13th-16th centuries.
