Purpose of the position: As Automation Engineer , you will respond to the Head of Instrumentation, Control and Telecommunication Engineering Department (SMAUTFA) and be part of the ENERGY CARRIERS (ENCAR) business line, focused mainly on onshore plants and floaters.
As Automation Engineer, you will be involved in project execution, starting from the estimation phase up to the detail design development and engineering site activities of standard Automation Systems (DCS, ESD, FGS, MMS, CCS, …) and Advanced Control System (ALMS, APC, PIMS, OTS, CPMS, …). You will be also involved in the New Digital Solutions under adoption by Saipem SpA.
How can you support us? Here below your responsibilities:
- Work within the project team as an Automation Specialist, developing detailed design activities, vendor deliverables follow-up, testing, and commissioning of automation systems, including DCS, ESD/SIS, F&G;, CCS, MMS, RTU, and SCADA.
- Read, analyze, review, and mechanize P&IDs;, develop and review engineering deliverables such as Block Diagrams, Control Narratives, Sequence Flow Charts, Cause & Effect Diagrams, Logic Diagrams, and Instrument Loop Diagrams.
- Populate, update, and maintain Project Control System I/O databases and associated deliverables, using SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), ensuring consistency with project engineering documentation.
- Properly interpret and apply applicable codes, standards, project specifications, and customer requirements for the preparation and review of a complete set of Control System engineering deliverables, including specifications, material requisitions, system architectures, and related technical documentation.
- Participate in and perform Control System FATs/IFATs and SATs, ensuring compliance with project requirements and approved documentation.
- Interface with Client representatives, Vendors, and Subcontractors on technical matters, and review Control System vendor documentation, including Functional Design Specifications, drawings, procedures, and manuals, to ensure technical compliance with project requirements.
- During the bidding phase, support the proposal team in defining the required engineering activities, preparing man-hour estimates, and developing the relevant technical inputs for proposals.
- Ensure adequate support to other functions and disciplines by actively participating in multidisciplinary review meeting.
- Support the Project Lead in planning and coordinating both internal and external activities.
- Actively contribute to the department’s digital transformation by promoting and adopting digital solutions and platforms aimed at optimizing engineering processes.
What are we looking for?
Education:
Technical diploma, bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in STEM discipline.
Experience:
At least 2/3 years of experience as an Automation Engineer within the Oil & Gas or Petrochemical Industry is considered a plus
Languages:
English (B2), Italian (C1)
Technical/IT Skills
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating system and Microsoft Office software package.
- Familiar with Control and Safety Systems codes and standards both domestic and international.
- Strong attitude for working in highly digitized environments, maximizing the use of new technologies to streamline operations.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interface with other engineering disciplines, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
- Knowledge of the main digital tools used for plant design and material management in the Energy Industry (e.g., SmartPlant Instrumentation) is considered a plus.
- Knowledge of Control and Safety Systems (i.e. DCS, ESD/SIS, F&G;, PLCs, MMS, CCS, RTU, SCADA) is considered a plus.
