Job Location: NAS Sigonella, Italy; Job Title: Site Safety & Health Officer L1 SSHO
Scope
Dedicated safety professional responsible for all accident prevention, risk management, and compliance.
Duties
- Prepares, updates, and enforces the Accident Prevention Plan (APP).
- Conducts daily safety inspections of worksites and enforces controls.
- Provides immediate correction and stop-work authority in unsafe conditions.
- Ensures compliance with U.S. and Italian safety laws, NAVFAC, and DoD requirements.
- Maintains safety logs, incident reports, and OSHA/DOL reporting.
- Leads Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs).
- Conducts toolbox safety meetings and coordinates refresher training.
- Investigates accidents and near misses, identifies root causes, and recommends corrective actions.
- Interfaces with the Government Safety Office, providing reports and participating in safety councils.
Mandatory Experience & Certifications
- Level 1 SSHO training and qualifications per EM 385-1-1.
- Continuous learning compliance with EM 385-1-1.
Preferred / Desirable Certifications
- OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety.
- BCSP CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician).
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional).
