Commercial Operator

Within our Commercial organization, we are looking for a Commercial Operator to join the Operations team and support the supply activities and optimization of our refinery located in Sarroch, Sardinia. The position is based in Milan.
The role focuses on the coordination and execution of commercial activities, refinery logistics and cargo movements, ensuring effective collaboration between internal stakeholders, external counterparties and Vitol Group offices in Rotterdam and London.
Key Responsibilities
The resource will be responsible for:
- Volume nomination and coordination: ensuring the correct and timely nomination and scheduling of term and spot volumes agreed with counterparties, liaising with the respective operational teams of customers and suppliers
- Transportation and maritime logistics: coordinating the transportation of oil products in close collaboration with the Vitol Chartering function, ensuring the timely and accurate updating of relevant information across the company’s IT systems
- Quality and quantity control: monitoring compliance between contractual specifications and actual quantities and quality of products loaded and delivered, covering both internal movements and external transactions through the various ports
- Storage and logistics optimization: supporting the efficient management and optimization of product storage, and logistics arrangements
- Third-party coordination: managing and coordinating with suppliers, port agents, inspection companies and other service providers supporting operations at Sarroch and other ports, in accordance with corporate policies and procedures
- Invoice verification and administration: checking invoices and supporting documentation for accuracy and consistency with contractual terms and services rendered, coordinating with Accounting & Tax and Finance departments to resolve any discrepancies and ensure timely processing
- Cross-functional collaboration:
maintaining effective day-to-day coordination with internal and external stakeholders such as inspectors, port agents and vessel Masters.
The role requires close interaction with internal functions across SARAS and other Vitol Group locations, particularly Rotterdam and London, including Treasury & Trade Finance, Credit Management, Accounting & Tax, Shipping, Vetting. The position may also involve business travel to support operational activities and cross-functional collaboration.
Must-have Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) or Economics.
- 1–5 years of experience in physical commodity operations, preferably in the oil products and cargo logistics sector
- Strong commercial awareness and a customer-oriented approach
- Excellent planning, organizational and coordination skills
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Proactive problem-solving attitude and ability to manage competing priorities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders across different functions and locations
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative team environment
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, manage time-critical operational issues and respond flexibly to business needs,
- Fluency in both English and Italian

Salary Package
The successful candidate will be employed under the National Collective Labour Agreement (CCNL) for the Energy and Oil Industry. The actual compensation package will be determined based on the candidate's profile, taking into account their professional background and the skills and experience they have acquired.
