About the Company
(https://www.aicamrobotics.ai/) We are a forward-thinking company that is developing autonomous robotic solutions for last mile delivery and intelligent devices for smart mobility.
About the Role
We are looking for a Navigation & Perception Engineer (f-m-d) to make our robots move safely and reliably through indoor environments shared with people. You will work on autonomous service robots that deliver objects and guide people, and on semi-humanoid and humanoid robots that navigate and perform loco-manipulation tasks. The work covers how the robots understand their surroundings and move through them: localization and mapping, semantic scene understanding, motion planning, and execution on real hardware. Responsibilities
• Own and harden our multi-modal navigation stack (localization, mapping, planning, obstacle avoidance) for dynamic, unstructured indoor spaces with people.
• Build semantic maps (object-level, open-vocabulary 3D scene representations) that ground natural-language goals into navigation targets.
• Fuse 2D/3D lidar, RGB-D cameras, IMU, and wheel odometry into the perception pipeline that feeds navigation.
• Extend the behavior layer above navigation: task-level goals, docking and approach maneuvers, recovery behaviors, and human-aware navigation policies.
• Build simulation environments for rapid testing of navigation and perception, validate on real hardware, and iterate.
• Handle multi-floor operation and building infrastructure: elevators, automatic doors, charging stations.
• Deploy and test navigation in realistic use-case scenarios. Required Skills
• Strong background in mobile robot navigation and 3D perception, with hands-on experience on real hardware.
• Deep understanding of SLAM, path planning, obstacle avoidance, and motion control of mobile robots.
• Solid experience with perception for navigation: point cloud processing, object detection and segmentation.
• Hands-on experience with ROS2 and the Nav2 framework.
• Proficiency in C++ and Python.
• Proven ability to debug and tune robots in the field, where sensor noise, latency and messy environments are the norm. Nice to have
• Experience in any of the following is a plus. We do not expect one person to cover all of them:
• Open-vocabulary perception (CLIP, SAM, vision-language models) and 3D scene graphs for language-grounded navigation.
• Visual place recognition for relocalization, especially learned pipelines (NetVLAD, CosPlace, EigenPlaces, AnyLoc).
• Learning-based navigation (reinforcement or imitation learning).
• Deployment on embedded platforms (NVIDIA Jetson).
• Whole-body control or loco-manipulation for mobile manipulators.
• Fleet or multi-robot coordination. What we are looking for
• Engineers who bridge theory and real-world execution and are comfortable both reading research papers and diagnosing hardware issues on the bench.
• Strong debugging
skills:
able to isolate why a robot misbehaves, whether the cause is a sensor, the software or the mechanics.
• Comfort with the full navigation stack, from integrating new sensors to high-level behavior logic.
• Genuine interest in making robots that reliably understand and navigate spaces shared with people, rather than in delivering demos. Pay range and compensation package
• Bargaining Agreement: Italian National Collective Bargaining Agreement (CCNL Metalmeccanico Industria).
• Classification Target: Expected job level B2, corresponding to a statutory base minimum of € 33058,74 gross per year.
• Total Rewards Package: Final financial offers will exceed collective bargaining minimums to reflect individual expertise and prior achievement. The complete rewards proposal will include an individual merit allowance on top of the base minimum, a fixed production allowance, welfare benefits, performance bonuses, healthcare coverage (Metasalute), and pension options (Cometa). Equal Opportunity Statement We are an Equal Opportunity Employer. Applications are welcome from all individuals regardless of gender, age, sexual orientation, ethnicity, background, or disability status.
