Grivel

About the Company
Grivel, founded in 1818 at the foot of Monte Bianco, is one of the world leaders in technical mountain and climbing equipment. It develops, manufactures, and sells its products all over the world, with 90% of exports to over 50 countries. A global and dynamic company, it is based in Valle d'Aosta but has a constant projection towards the world.
It has embarked on a major growth plan and is looking for ambitious and motivated resources.

About the Role
Grivel is seeking a Senior Product Developer to turn mountain experience, technical insight and innovative ideas into exceptional equipment for climbers and mountaineers. You will lead the development of new products and the evolution of existing ones, from the initial brief and concept through design, prototyping, testing, industrialisation and production launch. Combining hands-on technical expertise with sound commercial judgment, you will deliver products that meet demanding expectations for safety, performance, reliability, usability and quality. Working closely with colleagues across product, design, engineering, quality, production and commercial functions, as well as suppliers, athletes and mountain professionals, you will translate real user needs into robust, manufacturable solutions. You will take responsibility for technical decisions, development milestones and product readiness, helping shape the next generation of Grivel equipment while building on the brand’s heritage of innovation.

Key Responsibilities
• Support product strategy and range planning. Work with management to create and regularly update Grivel’s product plan and product pyramid, defining the role, positioning and price level of products within each category. Identify gaps, overlaps and opportunities across the range, and contribute user insights, technical feasibility assessments, development timelines and resource estimates to guide priorities and align the range with brand positioning and business objectives.
• Lead product development from concept to production. Own assigned projects, establishing clear requirements, development plans, milestones and deliverables, and coordinating the contributors needed to bring products successfully to market.
• Translate user needs into product specifications. Gather insights from climbers, mountaineers, athletes, guides, customers and commercial teams. Turn these insights into clear requirements for function, ergonomics, performance, weight, durability and target cost.
• Develop and refine technical solutions. Create and evaluate concepts,

select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes, and produce or oversee CAD models, technical drawings, specifications and bills of materials.
• Drive prototyping and validation. Plan prototype iterations, laboratory testing and field trials. Analyse results, investigate failures and refine designs until agreed performance and quality requirements are met.
• Embed safety and compliance throughout development. Work with quality specialists and external testing or certification partners to identify applicable requirements, assess product risks and ensure the necessary validation and technical documentation are completed before release.
• Ensure successful industrialisation. Collaborate with production teams and suppliers on tooling, tolerances, assembly, process capability and quality controls. Resolve technical issues during pilot builds and support the transition to consistent production.
• Balance performance, cost and environmental impact. Make informed design decisions that consider safety, functionality, manufacturability, sourcing, durability, repairability and material efficiency.
• Manage development partners and suppliers. Communicate technical requirements clearly, assess proposed solutions, review samples and tooling, and address issues affecting quality, timing or cost.
• Improve products throughout their lifecycle. Use production feedback, field experience, returns and customer insights to identify root causes, implement improvements and manage technical changes with appropriate validation and traceability.
• Contribute to Grivel’s innovation pipeline. Explore emerging materials, technologies and manufacturing methods; assess competitor products; and propose credible opportunities for product differentiation.
• Provide technical leadership. Share expertise, mentor less experienced colleagues and strengthen development methods, documentation and design reviews.
• Support launch readiness. Provide accurate technical information, product limitations and validated performance evidence to support instructions, training and commercial communications. Skills and experience
• Strong technical expertise in mechanical design,

materials and manufacturing processes, with the ability to translate product concepts into reliable, manufacturable solutions.
• Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD, including component and assembly modelling, technical drawings, tolerances and design documentation.
• Practical knowledge of prototyping methods, including 3D printing, and the ability to select appropriate methods for evaluating form, function and performance.
• Proven experience developing technical products, from initial requirements through prototyping, testing, industrialisation and production launch.
• A rigorous approach to product safety and validation, including risk assessment, test planning, analysis of results and root-cause investigation.
• Strong understanding of mountain equipment, user needs and the competitive landscape, with the ability to turn market and field insights into meaningful product improvements.
• Product planning and commercial awareness, including the ability to support management in shaping the product plan and product pyramid, assessing range gaps, positioning, price levels and development priorities.
• Strong project management skills, including planning, prioritisation, resource coordination, progress reporting and timely escalation of risks.
• Effective communication and collaboration, with the ability to listen carefully, challenge constructively and explain technical decisions clearly to colleagues, suppliers and management.
• Curiosity, creativity and sound judgment, combined with a hands-on approach, attention to detail and the independence to move projects forward.
• Ability to guide and mentor colleagues, sharing technical expertise and contributing to stronger development practices. Qualifications and languages
• A university degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Product Design Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• At least 10 years of experience in Product Development.
• Practical experience in climbing, mountaineering or ski mountaineering is highly valued, together with a strong interest in understanding how equipment performs in real mountain conditions.
• Knowledge of Italian is an advantage. Location
• The ideal candidate would be based in our headquarters in Verrayes (AO). Contract, starting date and compensation
• Employment type: full-time
• Starting Date: ASAP
• Compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience, and discussed during the recruitment process.
