/p h3About this job /h3 pbPatient Access Representative – Emergency Department /b /p pbPortage Medical Center - Ravenna, Ohio /b /p pbFull-time Rotating Day/Evening /b /p pbMake a Difference at the Front Line of Emergency Care /b /p pAs an Emergency Department Patient Access Representative, you are often the first person patients and families encounter during some of their most vulnerable moments.
In this fast-paced, highly collaborative role, you will help create a welcoming, supportive experience while ensuring accurate registration, communication, and coordination of care within the Emergency Department.
/p pYou'll work alongside nurses, physicians, and interdisciplinary care teams to help keep patient flow moving efficiently, support timely treatment, and contribute directly to both patient satisfaction and operational success.

/p pbWhat You'll Do /b /p ul liWelcome and assist patients and families during Emergency Department visits with empathy, professionalism, and urgency.
/li liComplete patient registration, check-in, and discharge processes accurately and efficiently.
/li liVerify and update demographic, insurance, and financial information to support timely care and billing accuracy.
/li liAnswer incoming calls and address patient questions, scheduling needs, and general inquiries.
/li liSupport patients with enrollment and navigation of MyChart and other patient communication tools.
/li liCommunicate important patient information clearly with nurses, providers, and other members of the Emergency Department team.
/li liCollect and process copays, deductibles, coinsurance, and prior balances in accordance with organizational guidelines.
/li liAssist with insurance verification, prior authorizations, coverage questions, and related documentation.
/li liSchedule referrals, follow-up appointments, and additional services as needed after Emergency Department visits.
/li liMaintain accurate and timely documentation, including scanning and indexing records within EPIC.
/li liManage EPIC work queues, worklists, and in-basket messages to support smooth departmental operations.

/li liFloat to off-site locations or alternate registration areas when required.
/li liFollow all organizational policies, safety standards, compliance requirements, and HIPAA/PHI regulations.
/li liPerform additional duties as assigned to support Emergency Department operations and patient care.

/li /ul pQualifications - External /p pbEducation /b /p ul liHigh School Equivalent / GED (Required) /li liAssociate's Degree or progress towards degree (Preferred) /li /ul pbWork Experience /b /p ul li1+ years Customer Service (Required) ul li2+ years Customer Service or Customer Service in healthcare (Preferred) /li /ul /li /ul pbKnowledge, Skills, Abilities /b /p ul liExceptional communication skills with both patients and medical care providers to relay necessary information (Required proficiency) /li liAbility to juggle and prioritize multiple responsibilities and handle interruptions (Required proficiency) /li liStrong organizational skills (Required proficiency) /li liProblem-solving skills for scheduling conflicts, missing documentation and other issues (Required proficiency) /li liAttention to detail to ensure all patient information is accurate and available (Required proficiency) /li liCompassion to help patients and caregivers in difficult situations (Required proficiency) /li liUnderstanding of the importance of confidentiality (Required proficiency) /li liBasic knowledge of electronic health records and basic medical terminology (Preferred proficiency) /li /ul pEach posting applies separately and lists its own pay.
