Offer Description
Space telescopes designed to observe the distant universe and low-intensity sources require anticoincidence detectors to suppress noise caused by cosmic rays. The project entails developing micromachined silicon detectors featuring superconducting Transition-Edge Sensors (TES) designed for operation at the telescope's focal plane temperature of 50 mK. Specifically,

this project is part of the detector development for the European Space Agency's future X-ray astrophysics telescope, newATHENA, under the coordination of the Italian Space Agency. The objective is to design, fabricate, and test the structural and engineering models to be delivered to the Italian Space Agency within the facilities of the Department of Physics' Low-Temperature Detector (LTD) laboratory.
