Firmware Development Engineer – Bring our next generation of energy meters to life
Are you passionate about embedded C/C++, software architecture and developing firmware that turns electronic hardware into intelligent connected products?
Carlo Gavazzi is looking for a Firmware Development Engineer to join our Controls R&D; team in Lainate.
Our Controls Product Line develops energy meters ranging from standard devices to advanced platforms incorporating embedded Linux, data storage and IoT services. Measurement performance, cybersecurity and industrialization are central to every new design.
Your role
You will design structured embedded firmware for our energy meters, with the microcontroller at the center of your work—covering measurement algorithms, communication protocols, cybersecurity and system architecture.
You will:
- Develop embedded firmware in C and C++ for 32-bit microcontrollers.
- Develop and optimize measurement algorithms, focusing on accuracy and performance.
- Design firmware supporting cybersecurity requirements under the Cyber Resilience Act, including secure boot, secure update and secure storage.
- Implement communication protocols including Modbus, BACnet, Ether Net/IP, LoRa, wM-Bus and Wi-Fi.
- Work with embedded web-server frameworks and APIs.
- Develop software supporting laboratory instruments and meter testing.
- Collaborate closely with hardware engineers on system architecture and component selection.
- Participate throughout the development lifecycle: specification, design, implementation, testing and debugging.
- Work with Product Management to translate product requirements into effective technical solutions.
What we’re looking for
You bring:
- A degree in Electronic Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- At least 3 years of experience in firmware development.
- Strong programming skills in C and C++, with software already deployed in commercial products.
- Experience or a strong interest in structured embedded software architecture.
- The ability to understand electronic schematics and work effectively across the hardware/firmware interface.
- An interest in using AI tools to analyze, simulate and anticipate technical issues.
- Fluency in Italian and English.
- An autonomous and collaborative mindset with the confidence to take ownership and drive projects toward completion.
The role is based in Lainate and works closely with our Belluno team, mainly remotely but with on-site collaboration when projects require it.
