Grid Integration Engineer

NHOA Energy is looking for a Grid Integration Engineer to join our Engineering team.
In this role, you will work at the heart of the integration of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) into complex power grids, performing advanced grid studies, modelling and simulations and supporting our projects throughout the grid interconnection process.
You will collaborate closely with Engineering, R&D;, Technical Sales, customers, utilities and system operators, contributing to the design and optimisation of our energy storage solutions across international projects.
What you’ll do
- Perform steady-state and dynamic analyses, control modelling and simulation studies of NHOA Energy’s storage systems using industry-standard power system software.
- Conduct grid integration and interconnection studies to assess the impact of BESS and other generation or demand sources and identify appropriate technical solutions.
- Develop and maintain power system models using tools such as PSCAD, DIgSILENT PowerFactory and PSS/E.
- Work with customers and Technical Sales to define the optimal design, control settings and grid performance of our BESS solutions.
- Perform power flow, dynamic and real-time simulations, supporting project development and execution.
- Interface with utilities, independent power providers and system operators throughout the grid interconnection process.
- Collaborate with Product, Firmware/Software and R&D; teams to ensure models remain aligned with the evolution of NHOA Energy’s technology.
- Monitor Grid Code requirements and regulatory developments, translating new requirements into technical inputs for our solutions and models.
- Contribute to interconnection and engineering studies including stability, harmonic and protection coordination analyses.
- Support the continuous development of our internal modelling capabilities and technical tools.
What we’re looking for
- MSc in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering or a related discipline. A PhD in Power System Control is considered a strong plus.
- At Least 6 years of relevant experience in power systems, grid integration or a related field. PhD experience can be considered as part of this requirement.
- At least 1 year of experience in industrial or power system consultancy projects.
- Advanced knowledge of at least two power system modelling tools, particularly PSCAD/EMTP-RV, DIgSILENT PowerFactory or PSS/E, including user-defined models.
- Hands-on experience in modelling power grids and a strong understanding of Grid Code requirements.
- Strong expertise in control systems for synchronous generators and inverter-based resources, including familiarity with grid-forming technologies.
- Solid knowledge of control theory, dynamic systems and small-signal analysis.
- Knowledge of at least one programming language such as Python, Fortran, C or C++.
- Good knowledge of Simulink and scripting.
- Fluent English. Italian is considered a plus.
- Experience with HIL platforms, such as RTDS, Typhoon HIL or OPAL-RT, is an advantage.
Location: Hybrid remote and Milan Offices.
